Federal Court Strikes Down Texas' Controversial Congressional Map
The court determined the redrawn boundaries likely constitute an unconstitutional racial gerrymander, mandating that Texas revert to its 2021 map instead.
"Substantial evidence shows that Texas racially gerrymandered the 2025 Map," the ruling read.
Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott, who enacted the map after the Republican-controlled state Senate greenlit the redistricting legislation in August, vowed in a statement that Texas would escalate the fight to the Supreme Court.
Congressional maps across U.S. states typically undergo redrawing every decade following the national census. However, U.S. President Donald Trump had pressured Republicans to expedite state congressional redistricting to safeguard the party's razor-thin House majority before the 2026 midterm showdown.
Democrats have countered with their own aggressive redistricting campaigns, igniting a nationwide battle that has erupted into multiple courtroom clashes across the country.
